Weare VKIIRUHRBEZIRK
Empowering communities. Creating opportunities. Building futures.
VKII Ruhrbezirk e.V. is a non-profit organisation based in Dortmund, Germany, dedicated to empowering individuals and strengthening communities through education, innovation, participation, and international cooperation. As a recognised provider of child and youth services, we create opportunities for people of all ages to learn, connect, and actively shape society.
Our work focuses on youth empowerment, adult education, mentoring, STEM education, social entrepreneurship, and international development cooperation. Through community-based projects, educational programmes, international partnerships, and civic engagement initiatives, we promote equal opportunities, democratic participation, social inclusion, and sustainable development.
Our Story
Our roots lie within the Association of Cameroonian Engineers and Computer Scientists (VKII), which was founded in 2000 by Cameroonian students in Frankfurt. The organisation was established to connect members of the African diaspora and use scientific and technological expertise to contribute to sustainable development both in Africa and in Germany.
As the network continued to grow, VKII Ruhrbezirk e.V. was founded in 2014 as an independent regional association serving the Ruhr metropolitan area. Since then, we have significantly expanded our activities while remaining committed to the values of the VKII network: education, innovation, solidarity, and social responsibility.
Today, VKII Ruhrbezirk works closely with public institutions, schools, universities, civil society organisations, and international partners to address social challenges through practical, community-driven solutions. Our programmes support children, young people, families, professionals, and local communities by fostering participation, resilience, intercultural dialogue, and equal access to opportunities.
With every project, we strive to build bridges between communities, strengthen democratic values, and empower people to realise their full potential.
